Canine Good Citizen and Beyond
This class is for owners who have successfully completed at least one HVOC Beginner 2 class or approval of the instructor after evaluation and who have an interest in increasing socialization with other dogs and people, confidence building and creating a stronger bond between dog and handler. Participants may have already received their AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, but it is not a requirement. It could be thought of as an Advanced Beginner 2 class, or an Intro to Community Canine, depending on your dog’s current abilities. The curriculum will be based on the requirements for both the AKC CGC and the AKC Community Canine Titles, in order to increase the dog’s skills in a more natural setting. Emphasis will be placed on increasing consistency in behavior and different approaches will be explored in the teaching process, including tricks, games, a neighborhood walk and reliable recall work.
Upon completion of the course, dog-handler teams will have the opportunity to be evaluated for the AKC Canine Good Citizen and/or Community Canine title. This will take place either on the training field or at an off-site location.
Admission Criteria: Successful completion of Beginner 2 or approval of HVOC Instructor after evaluation.
